Merida Friday May 28th - Dinner

Note: I was planning on a single post about our 5 day but as I started writing I realized it would be too long for a single post.  So I am breaking it down into individual days.  Enjoy!

Upon arriving from the airport, we checked out our place and did a bit of unpacking then headed to the nearby convenience store to get milk, fizzy water, and beer.  The store is called OXXO and there’s many through out Merida.  The one we went to was about two blocks away by the Church de las Monjas (there’s also a bank across the road and, although we have not tied it yet, a food stall).

We had made dinner reservations at Amaro which was a delightful restaurant in a large courtyard that specialized in local and vegetarian food.  There was a guitarist entertaining the crowd with traditional Mexican songs who was equally talented as a performer as he was friendlily flirting with a table of local women out for the evening.  The cocktails were good - we especially enjoyed the habenerro mescal rita.  I ordered crepas de chaya (A leaf similar to spinach wrapped in crepes served with a sauce) which was very good.  http://www.restauranteamaro.com

After dinner we walked over to the Mayan Pub where we enjoyed drinks in their garden.  Another lovely setting with very reasonably priced drinks.  We plan on going during their happy hour 5-630 in a future visit.  https://www.facebook.com/Mayan-Pub-109656715787431

On our stroll home including a short detour through Plaza Grande we heard someone shout out to us saying “Buenas noches, amigos”.  It was the guitarist from the restaurant heading home for the evening.
