A wonderful cenote

August 2024.  We had rented a car to explore the area and on Friday i took my nephew and step-daughter to visit Uxmal (magical as always) and rhe chocolatte museum across the road from Uxmal (better than i expected).  Afterwards, instead of heading home to Merida, the car was begging for a visit to another cent.  We looked on Google maps and found there were several around.  We filtered out a few that seemed too touristy or specialized for scuba.  We decided to head to small place called Cenote Peba.

The dirt road led to an ample parking lot.  Down a small path under a shaded cover sat two men at a table collecting the entrance fee.  My ability to communicate in spanish is still in development stage but i think the conversation went something like this:

Translated

Me:  Hello.  How are you?  How much does it cost?

Them: 100 pesos per person

Me: Can we have a look first?

Them: Yes, 100 pesos per person

Me: But can we look first then decide if we want to pay?

Them: 100 pesos per person

We paid the entry and walked a longer path towards the facilitiues.  It was no thrills but had everything necessary including a small cafe, chaning rooms, bathrooms, and optional life vests.

The cenote was wonderfull and we spent a couple of hours splashing around.  It wasn’t very crowded and for alot of the time we were the only people there.

Here’s a video
